Living with Dementia & Caregiver Support

Dementia. When you first hear a Dementia diagnosis for a loved one, a flood of emotions washes over you…

  • Fear
  • Worry
  • Anger
  • Despair
  • Grief
  • Shock

First before anything else, I encourage you to remember that you are not alone in this journey with Dementia. According to the Alzheimer’s Association, there are currently over 6 million Americans who are living with dementia. The next important step as a caregiver is to start thinking about and setting up a support system. Support can come in various forms from family members, friends, and neighbors, to community-based services such as home care agencies or Adult Day Services

How can Adult Day Services Help With Dementia

Peace of Mind

Adult Day provides a safe and secure environment for individuals who have varying types and stages of dementia or who are unable to stay safely at home during the day. It also provides loved ones with some much needed respite to minimize caregiver stress.

Gives Life Purpose

Many clients enter each day telling us how happy they are to come to Adult Day. We often hear, “this gives me something to get up and do each day!” Our team strives to make each person feel loved, cared for, and engaged, all while giving them purpose!

Socialization & Stimulation

I love seeing the friendships that develop among our clients at Adult Day! Each person thrives on the opportunities to socialize, while being stimulated mentally with daily, intentional programming. Our holistic programming looks at the needs of the whole individual…

  • Physical Needs – Exercise programs, active games, walks, and more
  • Emotional Needs – Intentional time reminiscing, making connections, and programs with meaning
  • Spiritual Needs – Bible studies, time for spiritual reflection, devotionals, and singing
  • Cognitive Needs – Brain fitness games, word games, and discussions
  • Social Needs – Holiday celebrations, wacky fun days, service projects, and more FUN!

We also partner with Messiah Lifeways’ Music Therapy Program, which provides individualized music therapy sessions to Adult Day clients. In addition, Physical, Occupational, and Speech Therapy are also available to Adult Day clients who are in different stages of Dementia.
