What is Benevolent Care?

Imagine a loved one you know, living out her retirement years within a vibrant community of other retirees. She has made many friends over the years and is involved in a variety of meaningful programs and activities.

However, after experiencing some physical and cognitive decline, the level of care she needs requires a transition to a part of the community where she can receive a higher level of care and support to help her through the day. She lives there peacefully for several years, but over time, her care needs continue to increase.

You begin to realize that though she saved a significant amount of funds throughout her life with which to retire, the costs of care and the length of time she has needed that care has put a significant dent in those savings. And in a matter of a few months, she will no longer be able to afford what it costs to keep her in her home with the same level of care and support that she needs.

What now?

Unfortunately, many older adults face this difficult situation every day, and not everyone is part of a community that provides benevolent care.

Thanks to Messiah Lifeways’ commitment to benevolent care, even when residents can no longer pay the complete fee for their care, they and their families can have peace of mind that they will continue to receive the quality care and access to programming and services they need when they’re at their most vulnerable. Last year alone, Messiah Lifeways subsidized approximately $4.3 million in benevolent care costs.

You can help provide peace of mind to residents and their families by directing your cash or non-cash gift to Current Benevolence. Funds directed in this way are applied in the year they are received to subsidize the current year’s costs of providing benevolent care.

You can also support benevolent care by directing your cash or non-cash gift to the Endowment Fund for Benevolent Care. Funds directed in this way are applied to the principal of the Endowment. As the Endowment increases, the investment income that can be allocated to help offset the cost of benevolent care each year also increases. Contributing to this gift pipeline ensures a perpetual and reliable source of income to support benevolent care at Messiah Lifeways for years to come.
