Open Letter to Messiah Village Residents & Families

Planned Power Outage in Village Center

September 9, 2019 at 4:00 pm – September 10, 2019 at 12:00 noon

The Messiah Lifeways® Emergency Management Team is making provisions for a planned power outage in the Village Center starting on Monday, September 9 at 4:00 pm through Tuesday, September 10 at approximately 12:00 noon to replace the building’s master power switch. Village Commons, Village Square, and all Messiah Village residential living cottages will retain power.

We are asking all non-essential visitors to avoid the Village Center for the duration of the outage. Limited generator power will supply emergency outlets and provide limited corridor lighting but it could be a challenging day without televisions, most computers, some phones, elevators, and other amenities. We will use every resource to ensure that every Village Center Nursing and Enhanced Living resident is safe and comfortable despite the inconvenience.

The following areas will be CLOSED during the power outage:

  • Katie’s Corner
  • Mechanicsburg Adult Day
  • The Clinic (routine physician rounds will still occur in Nursing)
  • U-GRO Learning Centre
  • The Salon at Compass Pointe
  • Most elevators with the exception of the large Nittany elevator, interior elevators in Donegal/Asper, Greenwood/Engle, and both elevators in Hopewell which will operate on emergency power.

The Evergreen Café will be operating with a limited menu.

A limited number of public restrooms will be open and will be lit with lanterns. Please note signs on the doors for the status of these facilities.

MVTV will be off-air, even in parts of campus that still have power; there will be no devotions broadcast that morning. DirectTV users on campus will also be affected.

Each neighborhood care base will have phone service. If you have a specific question about how this will impact a resident living in one of the Enhanced Living or Nursing neighborhoods, please contact a social worker or administrator in that area before September 9.

As always, we are grateful for your patience and cooperation during this time. Prayers for pleasant weather and safety are appreciated so this project can proceed as easily as possible.

Sincerely,

Kelli Mills, Vice President of Operations
