We asked two Messiah Lifeways at Messiah Village residents how they’re staying active. See their responses below
CHRIS SMITH
“I may be retired, but I still have goals to reach.”
On his birthday in June, Chris walked on the elliptical for 75 minutes–celebrating his 75th year of health and wellness. A fan of fitness, Chris likes to keep moving, whether it’s walking around campus, lifting weights, hiking, canoeing, horseback riding, or really anything that works up a sweat. During the early times of COVID-19 when gyms were shut down, he even got creative, walking up and down four flights of stairs in Village Commons apartment building 30 times each day in place of the elliptical. His current favorite way to stay moving? It’s a popular pick: pickleball!
RICH STUEBING
“God gave me a good body, and I try my best to take care of it.”
These days, Rich’s sport of choice is tennis. You can find him two to three times a week on the courts at the West Shore Tennis Club—or at a local outdoor court if the weather is pleasant—playing doubles for a couple of hours and chatting about faith and life with his teammates and opponents. Off of the court, when his daughter and son-in-law visit—who are missionaries in Malawi—Rich enjoys keeping up with the explorations of his young grandchildren, even running with them as they chase geese around the campus pond.
