Expansion Continues At Mount Joy Country Homes; 18 New Cottages Planned

Mount Joy, PA — Mount Joy Country Homes, a maintenance-free cottage community for adults 55 and better, announced it would build 18 new cottages on its rapidly expanding campus. The project will also include creation of a newly constructed street, Lavender Drive. The community pressed ahead with the expansion plans based on the demand for similar cottages unveiled in 2013.

The planned cottages offer single-story living with no steps, wider doorways and hallways, energy-efficient design and walk-in showers for greater ease and accessibility. Nine of the cottages will feature the Marietta II design, with a two-car garage, and nine will feature the Marietta I design, with a one-car garage.

Mount Joy Country Homes will hold a free Open House on Tuesday, March 11 from 2:00 – 6:00 pm, giving the public an opportunity to tour a furnished Marietta model, view the expansion plans, chat with residents, see the new Community Center and enjoy refreshments. Priority deposits will be accepted for the 18 new cottages during the Open House.

Based on demand, construction on the new cottages could begin as early as this spring, with completed cottages ready for move-in by late fall or early winter. Priority depositors will be able to select their cottage sites in March.

The community’s multi-year expansion plan will transform Mount Joy Country Homes into a 34-acre community with 114 cottages. In September 2013, the community opened a new 3,500-square-foot Community Center, which includes a fitness center, library, therapy suite, and commons area large enough to accommodate the community’s 78 residents.

The community currently comprises 63 cottages. Mount Joy Country Homes, founded in 1984, is an affiliate of Mechanicsburg-based Messiah Lifeways. For more information, visit MessiahLifeways.org.
