Knitting For a Cause

Around the time that Ruth Wolgemuth moved to Messiah Village in 2017, she took up knitting as a way to keep her hands and heart busy.

Eight years later, she’s nearing 800 scarves knitted for Mission Central—a Mechanicsburg-based non-profit with a mission of connecting God’s resources with human needs around the world.

“I hope those who receive a scarf that I’ve knit receive the gift of warmth and know that someone cares about them. I want them to know that no matter what they’re going through, they’re not alone,” Ruth shared.

Through her knitting journey, Ruth, alongside her granddaughter, has also made hats for NICU babies and lap blankets for veterans.

“I’m a very strong believer in volunteering,” she said, having been on 15 mission trips in her lifetime. “Everyone can do something for someone.”
